Facts and Mysteries in Elementary Particle Physics by Martinus Veltman

World Scientific Publishing Company | 2003 | ISBN: 981238149X | 348 pages | PDF | 11 MB

Review
... students and researchers in elementary particle physics should seriously consider having this book in their personal library, partly to be able to look at the many pictures and brief biographies of their favorite elementary particle physicists, and partly to learn Veltman's incisive thinking on obscure or unsettled areas in particle physics ... there are plenty of popular books on dark matter, dark energy, black holes, and cosmology, but relatively few straightforward yet fascinating popular books on elementary particle physics, so in this sense Veltman's book is exactly what is needed. -- American Journal of Physics

Elementary Particle Physics

Looking through the forewords of recent books similar to the one presented here, one finds that most of them state that the book is a somewhat expanded and modernized version of a course given by the author at some university in a certain year. However much we should like to do so, it is not possible to claim that this book is an exception to the rule, since it is really based on a course on phenomenological elementary particle physics given in the academic year 1961-1962 at the department of theoretical physics at the University of Lund, Sweden. The main purpose of the course and, therefore, also of this book is to provide the general background necessary for students who want to specialize in the field of ...

Spin in Particle Physics

Cambridge University Press 2001 | 522 | ISBN: 0521352819 | PDF | 4 Mb

DJVUMotivated by recent dramatic developments in the field, this volume provides a thorough introduction to spin and its role in elementary particle physics. Starting with a simple pedagogical overview of spin and its relativistic generalization, the author successfully avoids the obscurity and impenetrability of traditional treatments of the subject. He surveys the main theoretical and experimental developments of recent years, as well as discussing exciting plans for the future. Emphasis is placed on the importance of spin-dependent measurements in testing QCD and the Standard Model. This book will be of value to graduate students and researchers in all areas of quantum physics, particularly in elementary particle and high energy physics. It is suitable as a supplementary text for graduate courses in theoretical and experimental particle physics. ...

Particle Physics on the Eve of LHC: Proceedings of the Thirteenth Lomonosov
Conference on Elementary Particle Physics by Alexander I. Studenikin

World Scientific Publishing Company | 2009 | ISBN: 9812837582 | Pages: 472 | PDF | Size: 17,4 MB

This proceedings volume is devoted to a wide variety of items, both in theory and experiment, of particle physics such as tests of the Standard Model and beyond, physics at the future accelerators, neutrino and astroparticle physics, heavy quark physics, non-perturbative QCD, quantum gravity effects and cosmology. It is important that the papers in this volume reveal the present status and new developments in the above-mentioned items on the eve of a new era that starts with the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

The Nature of the Elementary Particle

The Nature of the Elementary Particle

1978 | 482 | ISBN: 3540088571 | DJVU | 4 Mb

0387088571The present book describes an approach to elementary particle structure that is not the usual one. In these studies we systematically explore the experimental data on elementary particles, and we attempt to keep our preconceptions about these particles to a minimum. Using a somewhat classical viewpoint, and stressing the connections with other areas of physics, we arrive at conclusions which are different from currently-accepted notions about these particles. Some of the ideas discussed in these studies are still in their formative stages, and the readers of the book are invited to send any ecaents that they may have on this work to the author. It is hoped that the present volume will serve as a stimulus for further research along these lines, and that ccments and extensions of the work ean someday be incorporated into a revised and expanded version of this book....

Particle Physics (Manchester Physics) by Brian Martin
Publisher: Wiley; 3 edition (December 9, 2008) | ISBN: 0470032944 | Pages: 460 | PDF | 8.7 MB

Particle Physics, Third Edition, provides a short introduction to particle physics, which emphasizes the foundations of the standard model in experimental data, rather than its more formal and theoretical aspects. It is intended for undergraduate students who have previously taken introductory courses in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics and special relativity.

Hadronic Physics From Lattice QCD (International Review of Nuclear Physics)
World Scientific Publishing Company 2004 | 384 | ISBN: 981256022X | PDF | 15 Mb
Particle and nuclear physicists frequently take results from Lattice QCD at their face value without probing into their reliability or sophistication. This attitude usually stems from a lack of knowledge of the field. The aim of the present volume is to rectify this by introducing in an elementary way several topics, which we believe are appropriate for, and of possible interest to, both particle and nuclear physicists who are non-experts in the field. ...

Elementary Particles and the Universe: Essays in Honor of Murray Gell-Mann

2005 | 224 | ISBN: 0521017599 | DJVU | 2 Mb

0521412536Professor Murray Gell-Mann is one of the most influential and brilliant scientists of the twentieth century. His work on symmetries, including the invention of the 'quark', in the 1950s and early 1960s has provided a foundation for much of modern particle physics and was recognised by the award of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1969. This book is a collection of research articles especially written by eminent scientists to celebrate Gell-Mann's 60th birthday, in September 1989. The main body of contributions are concerned with theoretical particle physics and its applications to cosmology. ...

C N Yang, one of the greatest physicists of the 20th Century, was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1957, jointly with T D Lee, for their investigation of the relationship (parity symmetry) between left- and right-handed states, leading to a discovery that astounded the world of physics — the nonconservation of parity by elementary particles and their reactions. With R L Mills, he created the concept of non-abelian gauge theories, the foundation of the modern description of elementary particles and forces. Professor Yang has worked on a wide range of subjects in physics, but his abiding interests have been symmetry principles, particle physics, and statistical mechanics.
